Pondicherry, Apr 17(UNI) Pondicherry Principal District and Sessions Judge M Chinnapandy, hearing the Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi Acharyas are the prime accused, today posted the case to April 27 for the production of an accused, who is absconding.
When the case came up for hearing, seven out of the 24 accused, including the Aacharyas, failed to turn up. Separate petetions, citing the reasons for their absence were filed by their respectice Counsel, except in the case of accused R T Palani and Arumugham.
Palani and Arumugham were involved in another case at M G R Nagar in Chennai. Palani was arrested, but Arumugham was absconding.
On request from Tamilnadu Special Public Prosecutor Balasundaram, Mr Chinnapandi issued a warrant against Arumugham and a date will be fixed on April 27, for the trial to commence after issuing summons.
Another accused Anil Kumar, who was present, reported sick, and his physical appearance showed that he is not mentally sound. The court was also informed by the Defence Counsel Mr Dinakaran that the Special Leave Petition(SLP) filed in the Supreme Court against the appearance of the Tamil nadu Special Public prosecutor will be coming up for hearing on April 24.
Counsel for Anil Kumar filed a petition before the court that he might be referred to a panel of doctors to find out the condition under which the judge is likely to pass orders this evening.
