MPP crisis deepens, MLA's son hospitalised

Imphal, Apr 17 (UNI) Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) MLA O Joy's son O Subhash has been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) after allegedly being beaten up by the police.

Former MPP president O Joy's wife and three son's were arrested by police and released later except O Subhash, who was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Mr Joy had alleged that they were beaten up in police custody.

Last night, O Subhas was brought to RIMS for treatment under tight security. His condition was stated to be serious.

Mr Joy, who was in the hospital, refused to comment on the matter.

He, however, said he would pursue the matter and demanded action against police.

The MPP had been divided into two factions with one group owing allegiance to Mr Joy and the other to Borajao, who was elected as MPP president in December.

The MPP office was completely deserted today and security personnel were stationed to prevent any untoward incident.
