India-US nuke deal will get through US Cong: Sibal
New Delhi, Apr 17: The US Congress will give its seal of approval for the India-US nuclear deal, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal today said.
Mr Sibal, who met with several Congresmen during his recent visit to the United States, said it would take ''a lot of dialogue'' to get people on board.
''It is taking place,'' he told a news conference today. ''The US President is committed, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is committed,'' he added.
Mr Sibal said the testimony of Ms Rice before the Congress on the nuclear deal arrived during US President George Bush's visit to India last month was ''very convincing''.
Some Democrats also have spoken in favour of the deal, he added.
The deal allows India to receive civilian nuclear technology for placing 14 of its 22 civilian nuclear reactors under international inspection. It has faced stringent opposition in the US where the Congress has to approve the deal to allow the US to transfer technology.
