India jrs enter final, maintain clean slate

Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI)Defending champions India's junior team maintained a clean slate and entered the final of the 24th Memorial Ferruccio Cornacchia International volleyball tournament at Porcia in Italy today.

According to a fax message from Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) Secretary General K Murugan, the juniors who had been exhibiting sparkling form, lost their only game in the tournament so far, in their 3-1 win over Germany. They won 23-25,30-28, 25-14, 25-19, bouncing back after losing the first set.

In the earlier rounds, the juniors defeated Algeria in the quarter finals 3-0 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 and Morselbelgid in the pre quarters by a similar 3-0 set score, winning 25-19,25-16, 25-22.

They defeated host Italy 25-11, 25-13, 25-15. The Indians opened their campaign with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-17 victory over Bulgaria.
