DMK chief has assets worth Rs 22 cr

Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) DMK President and four-time Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who filed his nomination today to contest the May eight Assembly election from Chepauk constituency, declared assets, both movable and immovable, worth about Rs 22 crore.

As per the affidavit filed by him, his wife Rajathi Ammal held shares to the tune of Rs 20.76 lakh in 'Tamil Kani Pathipagam,' a publishing house.

He also held shares worth Rs 5.41 lakh in a city-based furniture shop, 'Royal Furniture.' The Octagenarian leader, who would be contesting the election for the record eleventh time, also had deposits in various banks to the tune of Rs 17.98 crore.

Besides owning three plots in the city, valued at Rs three crore, he and Ms Rajathi also had jewellery worth Rs 97.58 lakh.

Mr Karunanidhi also declared that he owned two cars and 21 cents of land in Madakulam village in Madurai district.

His bete noire and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa, who filed her nominations for the Andipatti seat on Saturday last, had declared assets worth Rs 24.60 crore, making her the richest candidate so far to contest the ensuing election.
