Devastating cyclone hits Lohit and Changlang district

Itanagar, Apr 17 (UNI) A devastating cyclone hit Arunachal's Lohit and Changlang districts between April 11 to 14, damaging more than 100 dwellings, a delayed report received today said.

The cyclone disrupted power, water supply, road and telecommunications completely for the last couple of days, the report informed.

The worst affected areas are Deobil and Kaba villages, Namsai Township and Lekang circle under Lohit districts, while in Changlang district the worst hit places are Miao Township and Namphai sub-division.

The cyclone uprooted many big trees, which damaged government and private residences. However, road communication between Namsai to Mahadevpur and Diyun has been restored with the help of local people and labourers of various departments, the report informed.

Though the power department has been working for restoration of power supply but it was not possible due to cyclone and hailstorms.

Lohit district Deputy Commissioner P S Lokhande and Namsai Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) R K Sharma have been monitoring the situation and taking all possible measures to tackle the situation, the report added.

Namsai ADC said the exact amount of losses was yet to be assessed and the district administration has decided to provide monetary help as immediate relief to the cyclone victims.

In Changlang district, eight villages under Miao circle was said to be severly affected.
