CPI demands withdrawal of cases against TDP MLAs

Vijayawada, Apr 17 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded that Andhra Pradesh government must immediately withdraw the cases against some TDP legislators for allegedly submitting fabricated documents on the Sripadasagar irrigation project to the Speaker during the recent assembly session.

Addressing a press conference here, CPI Andhra Pradesh unit Secretary K Narayana charged that it was not fair on the part of the state government to lodge a complaint with the police seeking criminal action against the TDP MLAs.

He said the filing of cases on the issues discussed in the state assembly was against the tradition of the legislature.

The CPI also demanded the state goverenment to distribute 70 lakh acres of government lands to landless poor. In this connection if necessary, the party will not hesitate to launch an agitation on the issue.

Mr Narayana urged the government to concentrate on setting up agro-based industries in other districts in the state apart from Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam and provide infrastructure to entrepreneurs.
