Bhupen Haazarika suffers mild stroke

Guwahati, Apr 17 (UNI) Noted singer and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Bhupen Hazarika suffered a mild stroke early today and was admitted to Guwahati GNR centre.

The public relations officer of the city hospital, where he was admitted at about 0230 hrs after complaining of leg pain, said Mr Hazarika's condition had not deteriorated since he was admitted to the hospital.

He said Mr Hazarika was being attended to by a team of senior doctors and would be kept in the intensive care unit (ICU) for at least the next two days. Mr Hazarika needed rest to recover fully,he added.

Earlier, Mr Hazarika, while performing at a Bihutoli in Noonmati area of the city, had developed a pain in the leg and was rushed to the nearby Noonmati refinery hospital.

After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Guwahati GNR Centre where he was put in the ICU.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also visited the hospital and inquired after his health and prayed for his speedy recovery. Thousands of fans and well wishers have also gathered at the hospital to inquire about their idol.
