Astro turf for Hockey players in Kurukshetra District
Chandigarh, Apr 17 (UNI) A Rs 2.35 crore Astro-turf Hockey ground was opened at Shahabad town in Kurukshetra District of Haryana today.
Dedicating the ground at the Markandeshewar Hockey Stadium of Government Senior Secondary School, Shahabad to hockey players, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the State Government was giving a number of incentives to the youth living in the rural areas of the State for nurturing their sports talent.
He announced the State Government would construct mini sports stadia in 500 villages of the state every year for promoting sports talent in the rural youth.
He said the Government had made a provision of Rs 40 crore for building sports facilities in the rural areas. A provision of Rs 30.50 crore had also been made for promoting sports in the State during the current financial year.
Mr Hooda said in the recent Commonwealth Games five players were from Haryana in the women hockey team and out of them four belonged to Shahbad town.
He announced that the State Government would give Rs seven lakh, Rs five lakh and Rs three lakh to the winners of Gold medals, Silver Medals and Bronze medald in the commonwealth games respectively.
