99 riot affected families get cheques

Fatehgarh Sahib, Apr 17 (UNI) About 99 1984 riots-affected families presently settled in the district today got some relief as they received cheques worth Rs 1.98 crore as a compensation from the Centre.

Punjab's Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dr Harbans Lal, an MLA from Sirhind constituency, distributed the cheques of Rs two lakh each to 99 riots-affected families during at a function organised at the teh SDM's office here.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr Harbans Lal said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had always tried their best to provide timely relief to the 1984 riot affected families.

He informed that Rs 3.02 crore were being distributed in Fatehgarh Sahib district to 151 riot affected families as part of the teh compensation recently announced by the Centre.
