Punjab to approach Ambani for power from Ghaziabad project

Ludhiana, Apr 16 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said the state government would soon approach Reliance Industries Ltd, Chairman Anil Ambani to buy power from the Reliance 3,000 MW power project being installed at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said Mr Ambani was already committed to supplying 1,000 MW power to UP, 500 MW to Haryana and Punjab would request him to give 1,000 MW from this project to meet the ever increasing demand of power in view of new mega projects coming in the state. He said that the state government was making concerted efforts to augment the power supply and it had spent 24 per cent of last year's budget and has now planned to spend 25 per cent of the annual budget of 2006-07 on power generation.

Capt Singh further said he was scheduled to meet Tata Motors Chairman Rattan Tata and Mr Ambani next week to attract heavy investments in the state. He pointed out that Mr Tata met him at Chandigarh a month back and evinced interest to investment in various sectors in the state.
