Surat: Cong workers burn Medha Patkar's effigy
Surat, Apr 16: Thousands of Congress workers participated in a protest rally today here and burned Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar's effigy near Surat Railway station.
The Congress had called for a state-wide Bandh today against the revision of construction work of Sardar Sarovar Project in Narmada river.
Congress city units' President Sunil Bukhanwala told UNI that the reaction to the Bandh was ''hundred percent and a large number of people responded to the call.'' However, life in the city remained quite normal today and no untoward incident had been reported so far, police said.
Vehicles were plying through the roads and certain shops, except those which are scheduled to remain closed on Sunday, were found open.
