Cong. MLC appointed Legislative Council Chairman
Patna, Apr. 16 (UNI) For the first time in the annals of Bihar history, an opposition Congress member Professor Arun Kumar was today appointed as the acting chairman of Bihar Legislative Council.
A decision to that effect was taken at a special cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Cabinet Co-ordination Secretary Ashok Kumar Chouhan said Bihar Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi notified the decision from his New Delhi camp office today.
Professor Arun Kumar replaces Prof Jabir Hussain, who resigned as council chairman yesterday after his election in the the recently conclued Rajya Sabha election on RJD ticket.
Mr. Kumar represents the Gaya (teachers constituency) since 1970 and is presently member of the upper house of the state legislature.
