Surat, Apr 14 (UNI) Setting aside their political differences, rivals BJP and Congress have joined hands in their common fight against the Central government's decision to review the height of the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP).

The District Congress Committee had organised a 'dharna' near Gandhibag garden here today against the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activists, who ''want to stop'' the Narmada project.

City Congress committee president Sunil Brokerwala said the Central government's decision to review the height of the dam was ''shocking''.

''The decision will affect not only the development of Gujarat, but also 25 crore people of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,'' he said.

Yesterday, a group of Youth Congress activists had burnt the effigies of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for endorsing his support to NBA leader Medha Patkar.

Bharatiya Janata Party district unit has also warned that they will intensify the agitation against Narmada movement.

They threatened the films of Amir Khan will also face the wrath, if he did not withdraw his support to NBA and Medha Patkar.
