Meerut fire: Police to trace missing, probe begins
Meerut, Apr 14: The new Meerut police chief has directed the force to exercise restraint while controlling public anger and told the SHOs of the city to trace the missing victims of the Victoria Park inferno.
Meanwhile, a forensic team today visited the accident site to examine the debris, SSP Navneet Sikera told mediapersons today.
The team, led by Dr Ram, Assistant Director, Agra Forensic Science Laboratory, would submit its report tomorrow.
Mr Sikera, who held a late night meetng with police officers yesterday, accepted that the police image had taken a beating for the manner it controlled the angry protestors after Monday's fire disater.
''The officials and personnel must now collectively win over the trust of the affected by taking up the search for the missing ''as a mission,'' he said.
All the station House Officers have been assigned the responsibility to search for people who went missing during the fire. Orders have also been given against unnecessary use of force, keeping in mind the situation following the fire, he added.
