Meerut fire toll rises to 42: Divisional Commissioner

Meerut, Apr 13 (UNI) The death toll in the April 10 Meerut trade fair inferno today rose to 42, Divisional Commissioner Mahendra Singh said .

''Five more people succumbed to injuries today taking the toll to 42. Out of the 133 injured people, 89 are from Meerut and 42 hail from Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad,'' Mr Singh, heading the magisterial probe into the accident, told newspersons here.

The injured are being treated at various hospitals at New Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Meerut.

Mr Singh said that funds for oraganising cultural events at Nauchandi Mela will now be utilised for the welfare of the fire victims.

The Uttar Pradesh government today said that compensation worth Rs 1,49,00000 has already been disbursed among the victims.
