Violent mob torch police station in Purnea

Purnea(Bihar), Apr 13 (UNI) Violent mob protesting against police excess torched Routa police station in Purnea district late last night.

Police Superintendent Sudhanshu Kumar said here today that local police had arrested six people at Routa market when they were engaged in a scuffle over some petty issue.

Local people gheraoed the police station, demanding release of their colleagues, sources said.

Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob when they were shouting slogans. The crowd turned violent following the lathicharge and torched the police station and also set ablaze a motorcycle belonging to a cop.

Additional police forces has been sent from the district police headquarters and senior police officers were camping at the site, Mr Kumar added.
