Survey about child labour being conducted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 13 (UNI) Concerned over the menace of child labour in Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have directed the labour department to initiate steps for child labour survey in the state.

The Deputy labour commissioner, Kashmir division, impressed upon the officers of his department to initiate steps for Child Labour Survey in their respective areas.

He also directed them to identify the working child Labour in their respective districts regularly so that comprehensive remedial measures are initiated to curb the menace.

It was disclosed that the Labour department in Kashmir Division realised revenue of Rs 7.20 lakhs during the last 3 months.

During this period, the department had paid Rs 12.50 lakhs to 13 claimants under Workmens Compensation Payment of wages and Payment of Gratuity Acts.

Regarding Janshri Bhima Yojana, it was given out that a mixed response is being received from the workers and labourers to adopt this scheme. However, steps would be taken to motivate more and more Labourers to adopt the scheme.

The Crime Against Labour Cell has been established in each district under the Chairmanship of Principal Sessions Judge of the concerned district with Deputy Commissioner, senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Labour Commissioner Kashmir and two prominent lawyers as its members, and two Labour union leaders including one woman.
