Relatives of missing people gherao new District Magistrate

Meerut, Apr 13 (UNI) Newly-appointed District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram was today confronted by angry relatives of the victims of the tragic Victoria Park Fire, on his first day in charge.

Mr Meshram, who took over today, was surrounded by the relatives of the victims searching for their missing kin, when he visited the Victoria Park. The irate people charged the administration with trying to suppress the real number of casualties in the incident.

However, the District Magistrate assured them that the inquiry would go to the root of the matter and none of the guilty would be spared. ''I have full sympathy with all the affected and will personally visit their houses to ascertain their condition,'' he said.

He asked the relatives of the missing people to contact him personally.

Later, Mr Meshram told mediapersons that he would strive to ensure ''full transparency.'' Also assuming charge today, new SSP Navniet Sikera appealed to the people to assist the administration to restore normalcy.

He also assured the relatives of the missing persons that they would be located soon.
