Punjab CM greets people on Baisakhi

Chandigarh, Apr 13 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today extended his warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, symbolising the indomitable spirit of Punjab, Punjabiat and unity in diversity.

In a message on the eve of Baisakhi, Capt Singh reminded the people of their "centuries old glorious past," recalling that on this sacred day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh -the Tenth Master of the Sikhs created 'Order of Khalsa' at the holy city of Anandpur Sahib by baptizing 'Panj Pyaras (believed ones), belonging to different regions and religions, thereby carving out a casteless society and preaching the gospels of love and compassion for mankind, universal brotherhood and communal harmony.

Capt Singh also noted that this festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and ripening of Rabi crops.

The farmers of the state gather the fruits of toil and rejoice over their prosperious future.

On the occasion, he called on the people of Punjab to celebrate this festival of rejoicing in unison with traditional fervour and gaiety to strengthen the secular and social fabric of our country.
