K'taka: 15 police officers injured, tear gas shells lobbed

Bangalore, Apr 12: Police lobbed two rounds of tear gas shells to quell a mob which tried to push through the main entrance of the Kanteerava stadium where the mortal remains of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar was kept for the public to pay homage.

Police personnel, initially lathi charged to disperse the unruly mob which tried to force their way in.

15 police personnel were injured in stone pelting. More than fifty people were taken into custody in connection with the violence.

Trouble started when the actor's body arrived behind schedule.

The police, decided to shift the venue to Kanteerava Stadium.

Finally the body of the actor was kept inside the stadium on a make shift platform and the crowd was allowedto pay their last respects.

Maharashtra Governor and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, who arrived from Mumbai paid tributes to the departed soul.
