Nominations for last phase of bengal elections begins

Kolkata, Apr 13 (UNI) Nominations for the last phase of five phase elections in West Bengal, slated for May eight, began today with only two candidates filing their papers since this morning.

According to Election Commission sources here, the last date of filing of nomination papers has been fixed on April 20, while their scrutiny would be done the very next day. April 24 is the last date of withdrawal of nominations by the candidates.

All the six North Bengal districts comprising Coochbehar, Darjeeling, Jalapaiguri, South Dinajpur, North Dinajpur and Malda having altogether 49 constituencies will go the polls on the last phase of elections on May eight.

Incidentally, during the last assembly elections in 2001, altogether 271 candidates had filed ther papers in these six North Bengal districts.
