Meerut administration recommends Javed for bravery award
Meerut, Apr 13 (UNI) The district administration here has recommended a posthumous bravery award for Javed, who saved at least 15 children during the tragic Victoria Park Fire, at the cost of his own life.
Javed (18), who suffered 70 per cent burns, passed away early this morning at Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, where he had been taken last night.
''We have already forwarded our recommendation to the central and the state governments,'' newly-appointed District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said here.
''Puja Srivastava who also saved many people without fearing for her own life will also be honoured at the district level,'' he added.
Puja is currently undergoing treatment at a local nursing home here.
Mr Meshram said the authorities were compiling a list of all those individuals who had helped save people during the tragic incident.
''We are setting up a fund, at the local level, to assist the victims and reward all those brave people,'' he said.
