Mano gets one day bail for filing nomination

Chennai, Apr 13 (UNI) Madras High Court today granted one day anticipatory bail to Congress Councillor Royapuram Mano to enable him to file his nomination on April 17 for the Assembly elections.

Apprehending arrest over the alleged assault on supporters of a rival faction of the Congress led by former MLA Dr A Chellakumar in Sathyamoorthy Bhavan here, Mano moved for anticipatory bail.

When the petition came up before Mr Justice K N Basha, Public Prosecutor Jayakumar opposed grant of advance bail to Mano.

Mr Gnanadesigan, Counsel for Mano, submitted that since he had to file his nomination on April 17, the court may grant anticipatory bail to him at least for one day.

Following this, the judge granted anticipatory bail to Mano between 1000 hrs and 1730 hrs on April 17 to enable him to file his nomination. After 1730 hrs, he had to surrender before Anna Salai police station, the judge added.
