Man arrested over British police officer's death
LONDON, Apr 13 (Reuters) A man was arrested today on suspicion of the murder of a British police officer after a car carrying the two men crashed.
Northumbria's Chief Constable Mike Craik said the officer, Joe Carroll, had earlier detained the man for an unrelated crime and was taking him to a police station when the incident happened. No other vehicles were involved.
Craik said a full homicide inquiry had been opened.
Another officer who was also in the car has since been released from hospital.
Carroll was 46 and married with no children. No further details of the incident were immediately available.
