Kolkata witnessed rains after six months

Kolkata, Apr 13 (UNI) After almost six months of dry weather at a stretch, the city tonight received rains whicy brought much needed respite to the people.

The city was experiencing sultry heat wave conditions for the past few days as temperature hovered around 40 degrees Celsius. But with today's rain and thunder, the temperature came down slightly down.

Few pockets of the city and hills of Darjeeling in north Bengal were facing actute drinking water problem because of the prevailing dry condition.

Farmers in major parts of south Bengal also could not carry out cultivation due to non-availity of water.

Met office sources said the maximum temperature recorded was 34.7 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature recorded was 27.9 degrees Celsius today and humidity was 85 per cent.
