Jamshedpur, Apr 13 (UNI) Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi today stressed the need for social, economic and educational empowerment for women for an all round development of the country.

Addressing the 53rd annual function of Jamshedpur Women's College here, Mr Razi said, '' There is growing need to empower women in every field by educating them so that they could take their own decision and escape expolitation. '' The Governor-cum-Chancellor of Jharkhand Universities said despite some women reaching the highest echelon in different fields, 70 per cent of women was unaware of their right as they remained backward and ignorant. Women should temselves bring about a revolution to get rid of thier age of backwardness, Mr Razu suggested.

He lamented that in the field of economy the participation of women had been negligible. '' If we want to become a developed country, we have to make the women self-sufficent economically, '' Mr Razi said.

The Governor said a special emphasis had to be given for women's education and to do so the Jhakrkhand government had already introduced free education for women up to the post-graduate level and the government would bear the fees for education.

He said the population ratio of men and the women was 50-50 but the women population, barring a few exceptional cases, was lagging behind in every sphere of life. He said the real progress would be possible when the gap would be reduced.
