ISO certification for IGCAR's labs
Chennai, Apr 13 (UNI) Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) at Kalpakkam, near here, engaged in the indigenous development of Fast Breeder Reactor technology, has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by BVQI for its laboratories.
IGCAR's 12 R&D laboratories, besides those at the hospital of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), have won the global recognition.
IGCAR was the first research centre under DAE to receive ISO certification for its laboratories, a release said here today.
The centre's laboratories have made international benchmarks in the domains of Mechanical Metallurgy, Materials Technology, Non-Destructive Evaluation, Corrosion Science and Technology, Physical Metallurgy, Design and Development of Electronic Instrumentation and Control Systems, Management of Computing and Data Communication Facilities, Quality Assurance, Structural Mechanics, Chemical Characterisation, Radiological Safety and Reactor Safety Engineering, the release added.
IGCAR Director Baldev Raj said it would consistently endeavour to achieve world leadership in multidisciplinary scientific and engineering R and D activities related to fast reactor and associated fuel cycle technologies to satisfy the energy needs of the country, and provide long-term energy security to the nation.
According to Metallurgy and Materials Group Director and Management Review Committe Chairman S L Mannan, the certification process of all the laboratories was completed in a short period of about 12 months.
