Indian adventurer to ski to North Pole
New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) An Indian adventurer is ready to ski all the way to the North Pole.
Ajeet Bajaj, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, aims to plant the national flag at the North Pole by undertaking a cross-country skiing expedition.
Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today handed over the tricolour to Bajaj, who is president of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India.
A keen adventurer who has won a bronze medal for kayaking in the National Games and two bronze medals in international rafting competitions in Switzerland and Siberia, Bajaj is excited about the possibility of landing in the icy expanse where temperatures slip to minus 60 degree celsius.
''While there are many extreme challenges, it is a place of subtle, silent and intense beauty,'' he says.
Lying in the centre of the Arctic Ocean, the North Pole is almost impossible to reach by ship. If Bajaj succeeds in his expedition, he will be the first Indian to ski to the North Pole.
