HC grants interim stay on former DMK minister murder case

Chennai, Apr 13 (UNI) Madras High Court today stayed all further proceedings pending before the First Additional Sessions Court, Tirunelveli, in former DMK Minister Aladi Aruna murder case.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Ms Justice Prabha Sridevan granted the interim stay and posted further hearing of the case to April 20.

When Aladi Aruna was on his morning walk on December 31, 2004, he was hacked to death, allegedly by the hired assailants of educationalist S A Raja, in Alankulam in Tirunelveli. A case was registered and the trial was pending before the First Additional Sessions Judge, Tirunelveli.

The deceased wife Kamala Aruna wrote a letter to the Chief Justice, levelling some allegations against the prosecution.

Treating this letter as a writ petition, the bench granted the stay until further orders.
