Customs officials seize foreign currency worth Rs 8.8 lakh
Mumbai, Apr 13 (UNI) The Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji international aiport here today intercepted an Indian national and seized from him 20,000 US dollars, equivalent to Rs 8.8 lakh in Indian currency.
Additional Commissioner of Customs Nishith Goyal said that Mukesh Kumar Jivaraj Jain (37) was about to board a Cathay Pacific flight to fly to Hong Kong early today, when the AIU officials on suspicion intercepted him at the airport. A thorough search was conducted of his belongings and they recovered total 20,000, USD equivalent to Rs 8.8 lakh in Indian currency and seized it under the Customs Act 1962.
Jain has been arrested and further investigations are on, he added.
