Cases against Cong MLA, scribes registered

Guntur, Apr 13 (UNI) The city police have registered a case against Congress legislator T Venkat Rao for allegedly slapping a journalist and booked counter cases against Eenadu journalists on a complaint lodged by the MLA.

A fortnight ago Venkat Rao and his followers attacked the office of Eenadu, a leading vernacular daily for portraying his associate as a 'gangster.' Mr K Ramakrishna, a scribe of Eenadu lodged a complaint with the police that he apprehended danger to his life from the MLA, who had allegedly slapped him at a meeting in the municipal corporation office here yesterday.

The MLA filed a counter complaint case against the reporter.

Police registered cases against the MLA and the reporter under sections 323 (casuing simple hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Meanwhile, the police registered another case against S Nageswara Rao, reporter of Eenadu and two others for allegedly snatching the camera of the MLAa when he was taking footage of the dharna by the journalists.

The alleged slapping of the scribe triggered protests from mediapersons, BJP, TDP and the Left parties, who demanded immediate arrest of the legislator.
