Buddhadeb terms Maoists as a pack of killers
Purulia, West Bengal, Apr 13 (UNI) Describing the Maoists as a ''pack of killers'', Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today called for a fight for peace to sustain the state's development.
''The Maoists are a gang of killers, working against the poor, but unrest will deter development and we have to defeat them,'' Mr Bhattacharjee said while addressing his first election rally at a stadium here after the lifting of the ban on use of mikes.
The rally was organised in support of all the eleven Left Front candidates from Purulia district, going to the first phase Assembly election along with Bankura and West Midnapore on April 17.
Making development the main issue for this Maoist-affected South Bengal district, he said, ''Our government is working for the uplift of the state's economy, but the extremists are trying to mislead the people and putting hindrance to development.'' ''They are doing nothing for the poor. They are just killing people, blowing up railway tracks, attacking police and obstructing road construction. They are committing the mistakes of the Naxals in the sixties. They do not know what they want,'' the Chief Minister averred.
