Barnala greets people on Baisakhi

Chennai, Apr 13 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today greeted Sikhs on the eve of Baisakhi, which marks the arrival of harvesting season.

In a message here, he said India's rich culture and civilisation was reflected in its innumerable festivals.

The festival of Baisakhi was one of the popular festivals enriching the varied culture of India. ''It is an important festival for the Sikhs and is a formal celebration of the Sikh community for the birth of the Khalsa on this day in 1699 AD.

''May this day of festivity bring more joy and enrich brotherhood. Let us rededicate ourselves for the upkeep of our patriotism and uphold the dynamism of the Sikh community,'' Mr Barnala added.
