Another engineer arrested for accepting bribe in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 13 (UNI) In its continued drive against corruption, the Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) has arrested yet another engineer under Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).

A spokesman for the VO said a junior engineer of Roads and Buildings Department (R&B), posted in sub-division Beerwa in the central Kashmir district of Budgam was arrested while accepting a bribe for releasing a bill.

He said a complaint was lodged by Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh of Gampora that a Junior Engineer Abdul Gani Kumar was demanding bribe for releasing his bill for an amount of Rs 1,52,000 pertaining to construction of a road executed by him.

The spokesman said a trap was laid and the accused was arrested while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 3,000. The bribe money was later recovered from his possession in presence of an independent witness, he said.

More than 20 officials, particuarly, engineers, have been arrested by the VO in the Kashmir valley for demanding and accepting bribes from contractors for releasing their payment.
