Angry mob indulge in arson in Bangalore
Bangalore, Apr 13: An uneasy calm prevailed at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium, where the mortal remains of Kannada thespian Dr Rajkumar lay in state for public homage, as an angry mob turned violent and indulged in arson.
Dozens of vehicles were set on fire by the mob which went on a rampage in a bid to have a final glimpse of the deceased actor.
Police burst tear gas shells, on several occasions, to quell the unruly mob.
Police had a tough time controlling the crowd as lakhs of people from various parts of the state thronged the stadium to have a final glimpse of Rajkumar who died of cardiac arrest yesterday.
There would be delay in shifting of the body to Sri Kanteerava Studios, where the final rites would be held following unprecedented flow of mourners.
Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh appealed to the people not to indulge in violence and said more than 400 people were taken in preventive custody since last night.
