Peace in Pali, curfew relaxed for two hours
Jodhpur, Apr 12 (UNI) The two-hour curfew relaxation in the violence-hit parts of Pali town passed off peacefully today with no untoward incidents reported from anywhere.
The curfew was relaxed for two hours from 0800 hrs to 1000 hrs in the morning today.
District Collector Shivram Pratihar said the curfew had been extended till 0600 hours tomorrow but if the situation remained under control, it could be relaxed for a further three hours in the evening today.
Reiterating that the situation in the Kotwali thana area and other parts of Pali was fully under control, he said a peace committee comprising people of both communities held a meeting yesterday and emphasised the need for maintaining peace in the area.
Mr Pratihar said the police force was still deployed in the town and keeping a watch on suspicious activities in the area. He said the decision on lifting and relaxation in curfew will be taken tomorrow after a taking stock of the situation in the town.
Curfew was imposed in Kotwali Thana area of Pali yesterday after incidents of stone-pelting at the Mahavir Jayanti religious procession. There was a flare up between people of two communities as a squabble broke out over flags fixed on the way through which the procession passed. The Muslim community's Barah Wafat procession was also supposed to pass through the area.
