MoU signed for Jatropha cultivation in Haryana

Yamunanagar, Apr 12 (UNI) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cultivating Jatropha on 1130 acres of barren and wasteland was signed between 52 Gram Panchayats of Bilaspur, Chachhrauli, Jagadhari, Radaur and Sadhaura Panchayat Samitis of this district and D-1 Oils India Private here today.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Mrs Sukriti Likhi today.

While disclosing this the Deputy Commissioner said that this MoU would prove a significant joint step taken by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the government of Haryana for accelerating the speed of economic development of the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the district. The cultivation of the crop of Jatropha would help in making the Panchayats self dependent in meeting the demands of farmers for adequate quantity of bio-diesel,she added.

She said that comprehensive information would be given to the growers of Jatropha through the company which had became a partner in this MoU. She said that diversification of agriculture and growing crops like Jatropha would not only produce bio-diesel but also would produce petroleum also which was becoming a scarce commodity these days in our country.
