Italy's Prodi rejects German-style broad coalition

ROME, Apr 11 (Reuters) Italian centre-left leader Romano Prodi reaffirmed his claim to outright election victory today rejected calls by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to form a broad coalition like the one in Germany, his spokesman said.

''We have a presented the voters with a specific coalition,'' Prodi told reporters, his spokesman said.

Asked whether Prodi had thereby rejected Berlusconi's proposal of a broad coalition, the spokesman said: ''Absolutely.'' REUTERS DH BD0118
