Intelligence official, five militants killed in J and K

Srinagar, Apr 12 (UNI) An intelligence official and five militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) were killed and two ultras of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) arrested in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official spokesman said today.

He said militants at Bulli Sherabad fired upon Intelligence officials travelling in a maruti car from Tral to Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama this afternoon.

One official died on the spot and two others were injured. The injured have been hospitalised, he said adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack.

The spokesman said security forces gunned down a JeM Hyder alias Imtiyaz in an encounter at Dhana Behak under police station Lalpora in the frontier district of Kupwara late last night. Two ak rifles, three magzines, five rounds of ammunition, two UBGL with five rounds were recovered from the slain militant.

Two more militants of HuM were killed by the security forces during a search operation at Waran, four km from Surankote, last night. Two ak rifles, 18 magzines 277 rounds of ammunition and 19 hand grenades were recovered from the slain militants.

He said an encounter took place during a search operation at village Sukhanai in Doda district of Jammu region last night in which two militants were killed. One ak rifle, one pistol, five magzines, 80 rounds of ammunition and three hand grenades were recovered from the slain militants.

Security forces and police in a joint operation arrested two LeT militants alongwith two ak rifles, three magzines and 86 rounds of ammunition during a search operation at Sopore in Baramulla district.
