Indirakumari quits AIADMK, joins DMK

Chennai, Apr 12 (UNI) Former AIADMK Minister Indirakumari, who has been keeping a low profile after she was sidelined by the party, today joined the DMK.

The joining of Ms Indirakumari, comes barely three days after former AIADMK leader Sedapatti R Muthiah joined the DMK.

The former Social Welfare Minister in the 1991-96 Jayalalithaa Government, met DMK President M Karunanidhi at the Party Headquarters Anna Arivalayam and joined the party along with her supporters.

Mr Karunanidhi welcomed her into the DMK fold.

Later Ms Indirakumari told newspersons that though she had crticised Mr Karunanidhi over the years, the DMK leader admitted her into the party with love and affection.

She said she was prepared to campaign for the DMK-led DPA, if the DMK High Command asked her to do so.

Ms Indirakumari, who was involved in the Rs 11.42 crore free dhoti saree scheme during the previous AIADMK regime, was acquitted by the Special Court in 2003. The Government's appeal against the Special Court verdict was pending before the High Court.
