Farhad Suri elected Mayor
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) Congress Councillor Farhad Suri has been elected Mayor of Delhi, bagging all the 107 valid votes in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Mr Suri's opponent BJP Councillor Savita Gupta failed to get any vote as all BJP walked out in protest against Mr Suri's candidature after it was alleged that his name figured in a criminal case.
Congress Councillor Ramesh Dutta, who made the allegation, however also voted, on the 'directions' of Congress higher ups.
Election for the post of Deputy Mayor was on in which Anita Babbar (Cong) took on BJP's Surendra Singh.
As many as nine members, including six from ward committees, were to be elected unopposed to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's Standing Committee. Among those who would be declared elected were present Standing Committee Chairman Mukesh Goel and Leader of Opposition in the Committee Vijender Gupta.
