Factory owner among three killed in furnace

Jalandhar, Apr 12 (UNI) Goraya Nagar Council vice-chairman and owner of an iron foundry Rajinder Singh and two labourers of his factory died of asphyxia today after they tried to rescue a labourer, who accidentally fell into the factory's furnace in Goraya town, about 40 km, from here.

Police said the labourer was doing a repairing work atop the furnace when he fell.

During their efforts to rescue the injured labourer, Mr Singh along with Chud Singh and Santokh Singh, died due to inhaling of carbon monoxide gas from the chimney.

Six other labourers, who were injured in the incident, identified as Harmesh Lal, Vishal Anand, Chander Mohan, Kirpaul Singh, Balbir Singh and Paulli were rushed to the hospital.

The labourer who fell in the furnace, was saved.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma, Phillaur SDM Surinder Mohan Sharma, Phillaur DSP Gursharan Singh Grewal rushed to the spot and announced free treatment for the injured.

The District Magistrate announced a magisterial probe into the incident and appointed Phillaur SDM as inquiry officer.
