Excise officials held for accepting bribe

Surat, Apr 12 (UNI) Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths today arrested an excise superintendent and two excise inspectors from Surat Central Excise Commissionarate, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.

The officials allegedly accepted the bribe from a chemical unit owner operating in the industrial area of Ankeleshwar, sources said here.

According to ACB sources, the officials had asked the unit owner to provide records of his chemical despatch, which was used for chlorification of water.

The officials had demanded Rs 50,000 for showing leniency and the demand was later scaled down to Rs 40,000, sources said.
