Curfew relaxed in Aligarh, BJP MP Adityanath arrested

Lucknow, Apr 12 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed in phases in five police station areas of riot-hit Aligarh town, where communal violence erupted last week had claimed eight lives.

Eight hours relaxation in the day time was given under Banna Devi and Gandhi Park police station areas while two hours relaxation was effected under Kotwali, Sasni Gate and Delhi Gate police station areas, Principal Secretary (Home) Satish Kumar Aggarwal and DGP UP Bua Singh told reporters here this evening.

No untoward incident had been reported from anyhwere in the town during the curfew relaxation period and the situation was normalising fast, they said.

Curfew was clamped in Aligarh city after communal incidents on the day of Ram Navmi.

District Magistrate and the SSP were personally supervising the patrolling even as 275 persons had so far been arrested in connection with the violence.

Meanwhile, the BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Aditya Nath was arrested and later released at the Aligarh border to prevent him from entering the town.
