CPI nominates candidate for 'Reddiyarpalayam'
Pondicherry, Apr 12(UNI) The Communist Party of Indi(CPI) today nominated R Viswanathan as its candidate from the Union Territory of Pondicherry.
Talking to newspersons here, party State secretary N R Kalainathan said the party has been allocated the 'Reddiyarpalayam' constituency. Incidently, Democratic Progressive Alliance(DPA) alloted only this seat to CPI.
Mr Kalainathan said the State Council meeting of the party held here yesterday resolved to strive for the victory of the DPA candidates in all the 30 assembly segements here.
Mr Viswanathan has been elected to the territorial assembly from Reddiyarpalayam in 1990, 1991 and 1996. He was also the Agriculture minister from 1996 to 1998.
He lost to the BJP candidate A M Krishnamurty in the 2001 elections.
