Country-wide protest day on SSP issue
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) Non-Governmental Organisations, Left and Socialist allies of the Narmada Bachao Andolan were today mulling a nation-wide protest to pressurise the Government to stop further construction on the Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat until all those displaced by it are rehabilitated.
A country-wide 'Day of Action' was likely to be announced by the NBA this evening on conclusion of a day-long convention of people's and civil rights organisations near Jantar Mantar here.
The protest is expected to be organised next Tuesday.
Members of political parties and organisations -- mostly those part of the National Alliance of People's Movements -- attending the convention here said they would give another 48 hours to the Government to make public the findings of a ministerial committee that had visited the Narmada Valley last Friday.
Leaders of the UPA's allies, the CPI(M) and CPI, were expected to raise the NBA's demands also before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when they call on him this evening.
The hunger strike by NBA leaders Medha Patkar, Jamsingh Nargave and Bhagwatiben Patidar entered the 15th day today.
Two others of the organisation Jan Sangharsh Vahini are on fast for the 10th successive day.
