Collector bans explosives in stage shows

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 12 (UNI) District Collector N Ayyappan today issued orders banning the use of gun powder and explosives materials for adding ''colour'' to stage shows during temple festivals in the district.

The collector said stringent action would be taken under the Explosive Act against those who supplied and used the explosive materials, an official press release said.

The order was issued following the tragic death of two childern in a canister explosion during a dance programme at Vilappilsala near here on Sunday last.

The organisers should take all precautions ensuring the safety of artists and spectators while conducting such programmes, he said.

Besides taking all precautionary measures while conducting fireworks, the people who handled the explosives should have necessary licence, the release said.

Two children were killed and several others injured when a canister used to create artificial smoke exploded during a dance programme held as part of the festival of the Vilayil Devi temple at Vilappilsala on the outskirts of the city.
