Arun Gawli approached court for anticipatory bail in extortion case
Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of gangster-turned-politican Arun Gawli in an extortion case today remained inconclusive, when the additional sessions judge S P Davare adjourned the hearing till Saturday.
Defence counsel Harshad Ponda argued before the court that the complainant had stated his name in his complaint but police were bent upon implicating him in one case or other after his election to Maharashtra Legislative Assembly during October 2004.
Since, the matter came up before the court at the fag end of the day, the judge adjourned the case to April 15.
While, Arun Gawli, MLA from Chinchpokli area of the city was present in the court room, the complainant was absent today.
Gawli, fearing arrest in an extortion case approached the court for anticipatory bail.
Police had arrested three aides of Gawli in connection with the case following a complaint lodged by builder Mohammed quareshi.
