Agitated students ransack Meerut DM's office
Meerut, Apr 12 (UNI) A group of agitated students today ransacked the District Magistrate's office here following allegations that the administration had used bulldozers and other machinery to level Victoria Park, the site of Monday's devastating fire.
The students broke furniture and other fittings in the office and damaged the telephones. Demanding a case be lodged against the DM, the students raised slogans against the administration and the police.
Police later swung into action and arrested six of the student leaders, while chasing others from the site.
The students have threatened that they would continue their agitation till the bodies of the other missing people were found.
The arrests of the student leaders sparked off resentment in the city, with other students and residents holding demonstrations in their support.
